SUA continues to respond proactively to the climate crisis by integrating research, education, and community engagement aimed at adaptation and mitigation. Its work enhances resilience across agriculture, forestry, and water systems, reflecting a deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
The National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC), initially hosted at SUA, emerged from the Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Mitigation (CCIAM) programme coordinated by the University in partnership with national and international collaborators. The Centre built national capacity in greenhouse-gas monitoring, carbon accounting, and evidence-based policy development.
In addition, SUA implements the ReForest Africa Training Programme, which trains PhD students from across Africa in forest landscape restoration, carbon sequestration, and sustainable land management. The programme engages students, researchers, and local communities in reforestation activities that restore degraded ecosystems and strengthen regional capacity in climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.
Through climate-smart agriculture, renewable-energy initiatives, and ecosystem-based adaptation, SUA drives long-term resilience and supports Climate Action, contributing to Tanzania’s transition toward a low-carbon, sustainable future.
