SUA plays a leading role in advancing food and nutrition security in Tanzania and beyond. Through its academic and outreach programmes, the University strengthens food systems, enhances productivity, and promotes sustainable agriculture for improved livelihoods.
Its work in Aquaculture, crop and livestock sciences, food technology, agribusiness, and natural resource management drives innovation in climate-smart agriculture, efficient resource use, and the development of resilient crop and livestock breeds.
Over the years, SUA has implemented flagship programmes such as the Innovative Agricultural Research Initiative (iAGRI), Enhancing Pro-poor Innovations in Natural Resources and Agricultural Value Chains (EPINAV), The Future Opportunities and Challenges in Agricultural Learning (FOCAL), and the Tanzania Agricultural Research Project II (TARP II). These programmes have transformed agricultural education, strengthened research capacity, and built innovation networks with local and international partners.
Through collaboration with farmers, policymakers, and development organizations, SUA continues to advance Zero Hunger, promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems.
